What Is the FOOT Scheme?

FOOT stands for Feedback Orientated Observed Teaching

  1. The FOOT Scheme was set up to help prepare medical students for foundation training and their final exams
  2. It formalises the ad hoc sessions traditionally delivered to students by junior doctors
  3. It brings together the junior doctors that want to teach and the students that want help from people who often have the best knowledge of clinical signs on the wards, as well as recent experience of finals exams
  4. The scheme is not designed to replace existing undergraduate teaching, but instead aims to help medical students utilise all the available teachers and clinical opportunities available during their attachment
  5. In 1 hour bedside sessions students are observed whilst performing clinical examinations and receive individual feedback on their performance. In return teachers collect anonymous feedback from students at the end of the session
